The Perth Mint
You’ll never forget your visit to The Perth Mint.
The Perth Mint is an award-winning tourist destination where visitors will discover the history of gold in Western Australia and its ongoing importance to the whole country.
It’s free to visit The Perth Mint Shop and grounds, but to fully experience all their attractions you can join The Perth Mint Gold Tour, a fascinating one-hour visitor experience unlike any other.
Inside their historic premises, opened in 1899, your guide will introduce you to the world-class exhibition and its mesmerising journey of gold discovery. You’ll encounter extraordinary gold nuggets, hold a large bullion bar, and see some of the most famous coins and medals ever made in Australia.
Pride of place on entry goes to the One Tonne Gold Coin, an enormous version of the admired Australian Kangaroo series of 99.99% pure gold investment coins. With an intrinsic value of more than $75 million, the colossal piece was awarded the title of the ‘largest coin’ by Guinness World Records.
The exhibition’s latest additions are ‘King Henry’ and ‘The Karratha Queen’. Unique examples of Western Australia’s gold and silver heritage, they’re two of the largest and most valuable precious metal specimens in the world.
Having enjoyed these dazzling showpieces, your guide will demonstrate a traditional gold pour in the old melting house. It’s an awe-inspiring spectacle as molten gold is transformed into a gleaming solid gold bar right in front of your eyes.
As a token of your visit, medallions are available which can be engraved in a matter of minutes with your personal message.
You’ll probably want to spend a little more time in The Perth Mint Shop before departing. Located in heritage rooms once used to receive gold deposits from prospectors, today’s polished interior showcases many of Australia’s most precious natural treasures.
Among the renovated luxury jewellery showrooms is the new Pink Diamond Room dedicated to spectacular pieces featuring Argyle Pink Diamonds, some of the rarest and most sought-after diamonds that until recently were exclusively mined in Western Australia’s Kimberley region.
But if it’s Perth Mint branded gold or silver that’s caught your eye, then your final destination will be the Bullion Trading Room. Choose from the iconic Australian Kangaroo, Kookaburra and Koala coins, or pick up a pure gold bar weighing from as little at 1 gram.
Perth Mint is offering FCAWA Members, biological and foster children discounted ticket entry of 25% to The Perth Mint Gold Tour, this discount would be available for all ticket types upon presentation of a current FCAWA Membership Card and photo identification.
